Reviews

It is virtually impossible for the librarian to provide necessary support if he or she is unaware of the content that will be included in a unit." So state the two authors of this easily digested guide that stresses the benefits of integrating K-6 curriculum with the media center. After offering a handy, four-page rationale for the practice (ideal for teachers and administrators), Miller and Anderson move to grade-specific integrated teaching units. Covering oceans, Native Americans, and endangered species, among other topics, the units blend work on information-gathering, note-taking, and use of fiction, all involving intense use of the media center. Although they acknowledge the time crunch that adding curriculum planning to your plate can cause, they don't address this issue in detail. Nevertheless, Miller and Anderson have created an approachable guide whose use may wear a path in the linoleum straight to the media center.?Renee Olson, School Library Journal
