Ruth V. Small is the director and professor, School of Information Studies, at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY.
Marilyn Arnone is the president, Research & Development at Creative Media Solutions in Philadelphia, PA.
According to Arnone and Small, it is not enough to teach students to find accurate and useful Web sites; these sites must motivate them as well. To this end, the authors have created a series of evaluation tools based on the dual analysis of content validity and motivational quality. As they introduce the different objectives and uses of these tools, they provide examples of real-life practical applications. While the title suggests that the book focuses on the primary grades, there are also assessment sheets for middle-school students and adults. A fairly lengthy section provides information and materials for conducting how-to workshops and lessons for colleagues and students. Although the reproducible forms are useful, digging through the tedious text for the few nuggets it yields may be more than most readers are willing to do.-Yapha Nussbaum Mason, Brentwood Lower School, Los Angeles
