Reviews

Kindergarten-Grade 3-Bold graphic design paired with imaginative rhyming riddles create an inviting and enjoyable learning experience. Similar to the author's ABC Animal Riddles (1999) and Alphabet Riddles (1998, both Peel), there is one puzzle for each letter of the alphabet. The featured letter appears at the top of the page with blanks to indicate the length of the word. The clues listed are specific enough to solve the riddle but not so easy as to seem obvious. The illustrations create a diversion because they do not always depict the answer. For example, the "T" riddle is about thunder, but a tornado, turkey, and tractor are shown. There is usually a clue to the answer in the full-color drawing, but the hint does not spoil the fun of guessing. Answers and a page of ideas for parents and teachers are appended.
