This is the full story of the development of the big-game rifle from 1834 to 1946, and this book includes information about what guns and calibers the early American, Asian, and African big-game hunters used. These hunters tell you why they changed from rifle to rifle, what game they hunted with which weapon and cartridge, and what they thought of their various weapons and ammunition. It lists 588 rifles used by 170 prominent early hunters as well as the history of the gunmakers. No other volume has this much information on the early pioneer hunters, making it a must for any gun-reference library. Equally as good and important as books by Taylor and Keith. Contains a tremendous bibliography.
