Synopsis

The classic tales are illustrated by the artist known as "the Deadworld artist", Vince Locke, are presented as is the introduction to one of Deadworld's most popular characters, the Dead-Killer. This proves to be a great collection for fans to discover the compelling need to feed on the saga of Deadworld. In Deadworld, death is only the beginning of the horror and this action packed assemblage of tales set in this zombie infested world illustrates perfectly the dilemma the humans face, not only from the hordes of zombies but from humans themselves.

About the Author

Gary Reed has been the writer of Deadworld for about the last 75 issues. His series of the horror classic have earned numerous award nominations including three wins in the Ghastly Awards. Vince Locke was the original Deadworld artist and after leaving the book, worked on Neil Gaiman's Sandman before illustrating A History of Violence which became a feature film. Stuart Kerr was the original writer on Deadworld and along with Ralph Griffith, also created two other long running series, The Realm and Oz. Mark Bloodworth worked on the early Deadworld before winning a Ghastly Award for his artwork on Deadworld: The Last Siesta. Paul Daly has had extensive work in the role playing game field as well as lending his realistic style artwork to a number of projects. Galen Showman was the artist for Gary Reed's Renfield and also illustrated the Justice League's Age of Wonder. Troy Nixey, known for his Jenny Finn has moved into film making with the release of his movie, "Don't be Afraid of the Dark". Ron McCain was the first illustrator on the popular Dead-Killer character in the pages of Deadworld. Ron went to work on Batman after leaving Deadworld.

Review

The world is overrun by the hordes of the living dead, and a school bus full of frightened teenagers find themselves cornered in this melee. I think it's safe to say the world has gone to in a hand basket, as thousands of dead bodies return to life to set a grim visage all across the world. The only question remaining unanswered is how a terrible thing like this happens, but there's never enough time to stop and evaluate. All one can do in a time as horrible as this, is run for dear life, and if that's not enough, wait until King Zombie rears his ugly puss. I am sure that will do it. The set-up to this series sounds cliched, but don't let that fool you from discovering the plights and perils of a world run amuck with the living dead. This series after all is the grand daddy of zombie/horror comics, despite what some of you might think, and Dead World certainly does deliver the goods. --Kenneth Gallant, Broken Frontier

In a nightmare world where the living dead roam the landscape, a group of teens find themselves cornered by King Zombie, the intelligent leader of the undead. If you're into zombies then you ll definitely dig Deadworld. It's kind of like another zombie comic, The Walking Dead... but not quite as upbeat. That ought to tell you something right there. This is a pure horror comic, a frightening zombie story with a twist as these zombies have a purpose and intelligent leaders who are trying to complete the task of opening the portals, the same portals that brought the dead to life in the first place, and unleashing an evil that will wipe humanity from the face of the planet. This is the original zombie comic and it s easy to see why it s lasted so long. ... a group of kids traveling in a bus across America...a ranting loon named Deake who may have key information as to what started this whole mess and how to stop it...masses of zombies shuffling about just waiting to eat anything with a pulse, and ... a chain-smoking, Harley riding, foul-mouthed King Zombie calling the shots and causing all sorts of chaos. I can't help but compare this book to my current favorite read, WALKING DEAD. While that series masterfully unfolds with mature themes and realistic dilemmas one may face if living in a world where the dead live, DEADWORLD seems more concerned with the action. Although the threat is similar, the worlds of WALKING DEAD and DEADWORLD are very different. The zombie menace is depicted as much more in your face in DEADWORLD, while the zombies often take a backseat to the story of the survivors in WALKING DEAD. And that variety is a good thing.
