About the Authors : RALPH H. ABRAHAM is Professor of Mathematics at the University of California at Santa Cruz. He received the Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Michigan in 1960, and taught at Berkeley, Columbia, and Princeton before moving to Santa Cruz in 1968. He is the author of "Linear and Multilinear Algebra", "Foundations of Mechanics" (with J.E. Marsden), "Transversal Mappings and Flows" (with J.
