About the Author

Scott Saavedra wears many hats but has, sadly, only one head. He is a cartoonist, graphic designer, art director and writer. Someone called him a comic journalist once, so we could maybe add that to the list. He is happily married to Ruth, a very nice lady copy editor. Their two kids, Edward and Kate, are so entertaining that sometimes Scott's eyes turn into funny squiggles.

Introduction for People Who Aren't Comic Book Fans

Flee, Puny Humans! collects much of the material from the first seven issues of Comic Book Heaven, a modest little fanzine I published in the last century. CBH grew out of a desire to rekindle my lost affection for the wonderful though frankly bizarre comics I devoured as a kid. While it may have begun as a cheaply produced nostalgic trifle, it has since blossomed into a nostalgic trifle with better production values, thanks to the good folks at SLG Publishing. I've discovered, however, that while only a true comic book fan will get most of the obscure comic book references contained herein, just about anyone can appreciate the surreal quality of American comic books of the late forties to the early seventies. Comic book publishers worked very hard to get the attention (and the dimes and quarters) of potential readers, mostly kids, and like a desperate drunk at closing time they would do just about anything to get you to take them home. That wonderful, sometimes alarming, strangeness is what I love to celebrate. And that's what you'll find here, so turn to page 12, puny humans! Flee!
