His dynamic workshops and seminars have been presented in more than 20 states. Dr. Vincent is also a regular presenter at state and national conferences and has trained thousands of educators and parents across the nation in character education.
COOPERATIVE LEARNING - Students who work together during the normal academic class day recognize peers as having something worthy to contribute. It is easier to accomplish tasks when a group learns how to work together. Far too often teachers have students working by themselves, sitting in rows. Yet this is not how the real world works. The success of many companies depends on the effectiveness of employees who meet and work as teams. The success of many school programs also hinges on how well students can work together. By working together we reach out and touch others, and thereby become connected with some aspect of their lives.
TEACHING FOR THINKING - By combining the insights of Plato with our character development efforts, we recognize the importance that thinking and reasoning skills plays in the development of character. The skills students learn should be developmentally appropriate, with each skill building on previously learned ones. Students can apply these skills using a wide variety of academic methods and strategies including thinking maps. Students, as they move towards, the high school years, should make use of some ethical dilemmas, but this should not be their teachers sole application of teaching for thinking. Thinking skills must be developed and applied primarily in the regular classroom curriculum.
