This book contains the results of 28 years of research that tried to find an answer to the question "Why are we here?" that could be supported by science, not just belief or opinion. Scientific answers were found...with many of them being presented for the first time in this book. The author, Dennis Marcellino, started out as an award-winning mathematician and scientist. In a very inspired search to find the ultimate truths about this life and our place in it, he took his analytical abilities, science knowledge and hungry heart and delved deeply into nearly every major and minor form of psychology, philosophy, spirituality and religion.

Dennis Marcellino is 48 years old and has completed 210 units in science, engineering, theology and psychology from California State University (Northridge), Los Angeles Valley College, Logos Bible College, Wholistic Psychotherapy Institute, City College of San Francisco, Pierce College and Santa Monica College. For 28 years he, along with his award-winning math and analytical abilities, has had deep and continual involvement in most of the major philosophies and methods of personal growth in the world, including: most of the major and experimental forms of psychology (Freudian analysis, Transactional Analysis, hypnosis, psychodrama, Primal Therapy, Rolfing, drug therapy, wholistic psychotherapy, etc.), meditation (chanting, the word, light and music), eastern religion, Utopianism, various new-age involvements, Scientology and secular-humanism. His involvement in Christianity has included: Protestant fundamentalism, Catholicism, and a thorough knowledge of the Charismatic movement. Some of his experiences in psychology, science, spirituality and Christianity are described in this book. He's had a private counseling practice, and was a counselor at Grace Community Church in Panorama City, California, headed by popular Christian author Dr. John MacArthur, Jr. "Why Are We Here?" is his second book. His first book: "Sweeping It Under The Drug" (subtitled:) "A complete book about 'recreational drugs", and how to have a great life without them, was the first book on the market (early 1988) in the current wave of concern about the "drug issue". It received great reviews and quotes. He's also worked in the music industry. This work gave him the free time and funding necessary to do the research that resulted in this book. This work has included: being a member of Sly & The Family Stone, The Tokens (who had the hit "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"), Rubicon, and The Elvin Bishop Group. With these groups he recorded 10 albums/CDs. As a solo artist he's had two releases: "It's Christ
Have you ever wondered: Why am I here? Why am I alive? In this giant universe, what is the purpose of my life? Does it even have a purpose...or are we just beings who live and reproduce other beings, who then live and reproduce other beings, etc., etc.? Do our beliefs, attitudes and actions have any meaning or consequences...or are they all just 'dust in the wind'? If we take a good look at what exists outside of this ball that we live on, we come to realize just how very small and weak we are, amidst a huge sea of great power and unfathomable size. Therefore, we (humanity) can't be responsible for all of this being here. But if not us, then who or what is? And, how do we fit into the picture? We keep making probes into the universe, but no intelligent life ever responds. Is there in fact anyone out there? Is it even possible to contact the power/intelligence/being(s) that created this universe? This book is the result of a study by a leave-no-stone-unturned scientist who started asking these questions 28 years ago, and then continued asking until he had the scientific answers to them. His mind and heart wouldn't let him rest until he absolutely knew that he had these answers, and that there were no more pertinent questions to ask or rebuttals that could be made. Now that he has them, he says these answers are so powerful that he experiences an inner fulfillment that is very deep and secure, and a vision of life that is very clear (two things he didn't have before knowing these answers). And the way to have this clarity is: (1)to understand specifically how we were designed to function (and to know that fighting this design is futile and only brings negative experiences - to us and others), and (2)to understand why, for a relatively short time, we're even here.
Is there a God? What do you think? In your heart of hearts, what do you feel? If you believe that there is, you are in agreement with 97% of all Americans, according to a 1996 CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll. Does this figure surprise you? It should, because if you look at television and most of the other "mainstream" media offerings in this country, there rarely is even a mention of God. If you do believe there is a God, how sure are you in that belief? Is there anything that someone else could say to you that could shake your belief? And if you were to stop and really dwell on this question, do you think your belief would get stronger...or weaker? How strong would your defense be if someone, who either wasn't sure - or who felt very strongly that there isn't a God - was to ask you to give one? Although God can't be seen by our eyes (which would be absolute proof), science offers many ways to prove the existence of things that aren't visible (that is, that can't be proven by our eyes). And actually, the scientific evidence for the existence of God is even stronger than the evidence for the existence of the atom (which also has never been seen or photographed). Yet when the theories based on the assumed existence and properties of the atom are applied (in science and manufacturing), they work extremely well. Similarly, when Bible theories are applied (to how we should think and live), they also work extremely well. But there is a lot more evidence for the existence of God and the credibility of the Bible than just the positive results we get when we apply the Bible's principles to our lives (although for many, this is proof enough). There is much evidence from physics, logic, history, personal experience, sociology, archaeology, botany, astronomy and psychology. This evidence will be presented in the first two chapters of this book. Later in this chapter, from the fields of philosophy and logic, the arguments that have been considered to be the greatest in history, both for and against the existence of God, will be presented. I'll then argue against the "against" arguments, as well as present some "for" arguments of my own. I believe that when all has been said, it will be clear that the evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the existence of God, even to the most scrutinizing mind.
