Synopsis
This book tells a story which has never before been fully documented. It traces the evolution of the legal status of antitrinitarianism in England from the Trinity Act of 1813, through a series of trials to establish lawful control over the dissenting chapel in Wolferhampton, to a crucial controversy over the Lady Hewley's Charity, and ultimately to the campaign which resulted in the Dissenters' Chapels Bill in 1844-which finally established the right of antitrinitarians to title to their chapels and endowments and to equal treatment under the law. 'Blasphemous and Wicked' documents the struggle and explains its importance to the religious history and culture of England.
