The Sarum Rule is widely acknowledged to be seminal in the growth and elaboration of Liturgy in the Western Church. Even today many of its innovations can still be traced in the form of our services. Throughout the Middle Ages, the particular liturgical use of Salisbury which we know as the Sarum Rule increased in popularity, and indeed became the major use in pre-Reformation England. Like other regional uses, it gives a characteristically local feel to the Western Rite, and as the author points outs out in his splendidly readable study, that rite has continued to influence the whole style of English worship both in the Book of Common Prayer and in more recent revisions. * This is a FINE UN-USED copy of the 1st./1st. with no visible faults. y.
