Synopsis
The Boyles are a landed family who have lived for more than three hundred years in the family estate at Streamhill, near Navan, in Co Meath. Their heritage is important to them - the family’s tenure at Streamhill has embraced several centuries of social change in Ireland.
Old Colonel Boyle is a remnant of the older order and still hankers for the days of royalty and landlord dominance. Margaret and Howard represent a new pragmatic generation but their lives are nonetheless dedicated to the survival of the Streamhill estate. It is a crushing burden but they find new ways of generating revenue and the family lingers on.
