Capturing the towering emotion and the claustrophobic 24-hour drama of New York City, New York is the ultimate tribute to the world’s ultimate metropolis. This thorough appraisal of the greatest modern city covers every aspect of the New York story from history, architecture, design, art, and fashion to music, film, dance, and sports. Oversized, presented in a specially made Lucite box, and including 2 limited-edition archival prints by Eugene de Salignac and Andre De Dienes, this stunning achievement is for connoisseurs of fine books and fine photography.

Thirty-three chapters of new and archival writing from leading New York journalists and writers including Ric Burns, Tom Wolfe, Gay Talese, Pete Hamill, John Updike, E. B. White, Don DeLillo, David Remnick, David Halberstam, and Colson Whitehead are perfectly complemented by striking photography by Alfred Stieglitz, Berenice Abbott, Diane Arbus, Eugene De Salignac, Patrick Demarchelier, Weegee, Annie Leibovitz, Jerry Schatzberg, David Bailey, Bruce Davidson, and others. Lovingly crafted, this milestone work about a single city, and the definitive reference on all things Gotham, New York is a must-have for lovers of the Big Apple everywhere.  The limited LIBERTY EDITION of New York is bound in silk and presented in a Lucite Tower Case. Limited to 250 copies, it features two 16” x 20” authenticated limited edition archival prints:

* Eugene de Salignac (1861-1943)

NY Municipal Archive – includes custom archival stamp

Eugene de Salignac was the official photographer for the NYC Department of Bridges from 1906 to 1934. He took over 20,000 photographs of the growing city between 1903 and 1936 - a period of massive and rapid growth. His body of work, as a whole, was only rediscovered in 1999 by New York City Municipal Archives photographer Michael Lorenzini,  who realized that many of the photographs he was scrolling through in the microfiche records were obviously the work of one person.

* Andre De Dienes (1913-1985)

OneWest Publishing – includes custom archival stamp

Born in Transylvania, De Dienes emigrated to the US in 1938 and settled in New York to work for Esquire, Vogue, Life and Montgomery Ward. During his career De Dienes also freelanced for the Hollywood studios and became known as one of the top glamour photographers, shooting many stars including Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Henry Fonda, Shirley Temple, Fred Astaire, Ingrid Bergman, and Marilyn Monroe, with whom he had an eight-year working relationship.
