Synopsis
This is the companion volume to "Hermetic Qabalah - A Foundation in the Art of Magick", and comprises the one-year practical course work. The course is based upon systematic meditations upon the paths of the Hermetic Tree of Life following the downward course of the Lightning Flash from Kether to Malkuth. The student learns, through experience, how to create an astral double as a medium for forging the inner plane contacts that alone make real Initiation a possibility. The preliminary work includes the Wisdom of Breath, Ritual Sonics, the Assumption of the Godform and a powerful, modern variation of the Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram, as suitable for the New Aeon. Once these techniques are mastered, the student moves, step-by-step, to an advanced Hermetic magical operation.

The symbol called the Hermetic Tree of Life is the Key to the Mysteries. It is only when the Hermetic Tree has been seeded in the astrosome of the magician, and with time, labour and care has rooted and flourished, that the rituals and practices may become a Gateway to true Knowledge. The practical work in this book is based upon systematic meditations upon the paths of the Hermetic Tree of Life, following the downward course of the Lightning Flash from Kether to Malkuth. When this is accomplished perfectly, an astral double, resurrection body or Merkebah chariot is born. It is through the astral double that magical work becomes effective. The paths of the Tree of Life are worked over and over again in the course of a lifetime, and at many levels.
About the Author
Oliver St. John founded the Thelemic Magical Collegium Ordo Astri in 2000 e.v. He was accepted into Kenneth Grant's Typhonian Order in the same year and has contributed to Starfire, Journal of the New Aeon. St. John has also worked with Mary Long (author and student of Dion Fortune), Gareth Knight, Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki (co-founder of Servants of the Light Association), and Olivia Robertson (co-founder of the Fellowship of Isis).
