"Hicks doesn't stint on his portrayal of the horrors of war - both in terms of the carnage and the mental anguish that troops suffer in battle. This isn't a whodunit but an exploration of the evil of which men, individually and collectively, are capable."--Publishers Weekly, Oct. 7, 2013 "Oscendale himself is a miracle of novel portraiture. By turns brave, terrified, traumatized, and confliced."--Myster Scene Mag. Winter 2014

Dr Jonathan Phillip Hicks was born in Barry, South Wales in 1957. He now lives there with his wife and three sons. At University he studied English and History and began his career as an English teacher. He is now the Headteacher at St Cyres Comprehensive School in Penarth.
"I have always loved telling stories and entertaining people. Some of my favourite authors are crime writers and after spending several years researching into the Great War I was able to write a novel that I hope you will enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing."
Jonathan is well known for his interest in military history. His work has been published in the magazines 'Soldiers of the Queen', 'Stand To', 'The Great War Magazine' and 'Britain at War'. He also writes regularly for the local press and twice a month gives lectures on military history throughout South Wales.
