In 1910 a young orphan from Middleborough in Yorkshire landed in Melbourne intent on studying for the Methodist ministry. A series of chances and friendships changed the direction of his life so that it was the Anglican Church in which he serve - to become eventually the fourth Archbishop of Melbourne. His experience as a Chaplain in the First World War (in which he won the Military Cross in 1917 at Passchendale), brought out the courage and determination that became so characteristic of his leadership, first at the parishes of St. Paul's Fairfield, and St. Pauls, Geelong, then later as the first Bishop Coadjutor of Melbourne inder Archbishop Head, whom he succeeded in 1942.This biography shows Dr. Booth as a man among men and as a strong leader through difficult times in both the Church and the community.
