About the Author:
Rita Justice, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who has been in private practice in Houston for 25 years. With her husband, psychologist Blair Justice, she co-authored two pioneering books on child abuse and incest (The Abusing Family, Human Sciences Press, 1976 and a revised edition in 1990, Plenum; The Broken Taboo: Sex in the Family, Human Sciences Press, 1979). She is on the adjunct faculty in pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Justice has lectured and taught extensively in this country and internationally. From the beginning of her clinical practice, she has kept the body as well as the mind and emotions an important focus in her psychotherapeutic work. Dr. Justice's new book, Alive and Well: A Workbook for Recovering Your Body, teaches both professionals and lay persons how to use the body for emotional healing, in or out of psychotherapy.
Review:
"Dr. Rita Justice has a gift for synthesizing fresh insights into body, mind, and heart with clarity and charm. In Alive and Well, she brings the breadth of her experience as a psychotherapist and practitioner of yoga and meditation to bear on the dilemma of the divided self. Librarians will appreciate the book's useful appeal to a wide range of readers." -- Gail Donohue Storey, former librarian and author of The Lord's Motel and God's Country Club

"I think your book Alive and Well is important in today's society." -- Bernie Siegel, M.D., author of Love, Medicine and Miracles

"If taken seriously, Alive and Well could eliminate 90% of the reasons people go to doctors." -- Larry Dossey, M.D., author of Healing Wounds

"It's clear-headed instructions for people interested in the mind-body link are easy to read; in addition, straightforward exercises move the book from theory to practice. Unlike other books on this topic, Alive and Well avoids New Age jargon and the language of pop psychology... Alive and Well is well-reasoned and concrete. Complete with breathing and physical exercises to get the reader in touch with his/her body, it is a savvy introduction to an increasingly popular form of healing." -- Small Press Magazine

"This beautifully written distillation of a respected psychotherapist's personal and professional experiences provides simple exercises on how to recover your body when it's been adversely affected." -- Naomi Judd, Grammy award-winning songwriter and singer and author of Love Can Build a Bridge
