Synopsis
MELISSA STRANGWAY WRITING AS PAMELA HARRIS ANASTASIA DALTON has led a full life. Her charmed existence as she enters adulthood comes crashing to the ground in the midst of planning a fairytale wedding, finding herself pregnant by a man who was not her fiancé. She later suffers significant trauma and, in an attempt to regain some happiness, she has an affair with the estranged husband of one of her best friends. It is 1985, as Part One begins and we meet Anastasia's two best friends, Tilly and Betsy. In a series of bewildering partner changes, the lives of these women are turned upside down. Part Two takes us back to an earlier time, when the main characters are just reaching maturity and getting together in a complicated series of betrayals and resurrections. James and Anastasia become engaged, Thomas and Betsy become engaged, and Tilly is always the bridesmaid. Part Three takes us through the ups and downs of the characters' lives, full of intrigue and betrayal. As Part Four opens, Betsy is in hospital where she was rushed following the overdose of alcohol and drugs which closed Part One. Eventually, all the friends reconcile and forgive. But as Anastasia visits the grave of her unborn daughter the story ends with her evaluating where life has taken her and the thought that she needs a new beginning. Somewhere far away, perhaps in the homeland of her ancestors. And we know she is not going alone.
