The true story of a harrowing voyage of Army small craft escorted from new York to Plymouth, England, during WW II. The Army craft were manned by civilians employed in the Army Transport Service. Veterans status was granted in 1988 to those members of the Army Transport Seamen who sailed between December 7, 1941, and August 15, 1945.
It had been over an hour since he had lost voice contact with the other survivors...Reconciling himself to death, he prayed that the end wouldn't come knifing up from beneath to cut him in two...More minutes passed --...It was then that he saw it. A ship with her running lights on and her searchlights stabbing, was heading directly toward him...The ship was all of a sudden almost on top of him. As the knife edge of her bow loomed high above him, the bow wave subsided, yet he could tell that she hadn't stopped. Flinging out his arms and legs, he spread-eagled himself across the bow point of the ship and clung desperately.
