Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Jacket has rubbing to the rear panel, now enclosed in protective mylar, binding sound, internally clean. We move eastward now to examine the Chama area with its exciting engine facilities and structures. We go up the 4% grade to Cumbres Pass where an abundance of photographic studies allow us to visualize the intense activities occurring over the years at the Pass. Then on to Antonito and south to Santa Fe on the fabulous Chili Line where few photos grace the historic collections concerning this route. General Palmer may have "missed the boat" by not vigorously pursuing his initial southerly plan. By making the San Juan extension the mainline and foregoing the Santa Fe route as a major emphasis, he missed a population growth ten times that of southwestern Colorado. It is, however, easy for a historian to have hindsight into historical progress. Great effort is involved in searching out and seeking for fine old photos, in fact, some are not so "fine" but just old and noteworthy in their content. A separate story alone of the life and times of Charles R. Lively would be appropriate. This is the third book by Dick Dorman on the "Narrow Gauge Collection" and it provides the railroad buff, historian and modeler with new photos not seen before. Dorman shows, also, more of his collection of valuable images taken long ago. Seller Inventory # 240821001
