Colt's Model P revolver is probably the most famous revolver in the world. It's popularity began in 1873 and continues unabated today. While much has been written about its early history very little has appeared in print concerning the pre-war/post-war era.
Presented here in reference form is the last chapter in the story of Colt's Pre-war Single Action Army revolver. The assembly of the last of the pre-war frames began in 1947 and continued until early 1961. Assembled by master craftsman, many of these fine revolvers were presented to public officials and Colt personnel.
Topics include presentations, sales, engraved revolvers, consecutive sets and foreign sales. Covered in detail are the characteristics unique to this revolver and complete production information.
This study is written from both a historian's and collector's viewpoint. A wealth of photographs and detailed information is presented to aid in the collecting of Colt's Pre-War/Post-War Single Action Army revolver.

Don Wilkerson is a well-known historian and author in the field of Colt firearms. His books have been noted for their accuracy and comprehensive attention to detail. His straight forward style of writing has been enjoyed by experienced collectors and novices alike.
Don was born in Cordell, Oklahoma in 1938 and graduated from the University of Tulsa. After graduation he spent the next six years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force serving in Texas, Alaska, Greenland and Viet Nam. He joined Northwest Airlines in 1967 and retired after 31 1/2 years service as a commercial airline pilot.
He is a life member of the Colt Collectors Association and Past President, a member of the American Society of Arms Collectors, the Texas Gun Collectors Association, the Colorado Gun Collectors Association, the Collectors Arms Dealers Association and an Endowment member of the National Rifle Association.
"Don Wilkerson is well-known to collectors of post-war II Colt Single Action Army revolvers. Don and Carol have compiled thousands of hours of research which to date have resulted in three excellent books covering post 1955 Colt factory Single Action Army production.
"This book is a natural progression of Don's diligent Colt factory research of the post-1955 Single Action Army revolver. From Colt's intermingled production and shipping records, he was able to glean a wealth of information for all single action enthusiasts.
"This book is, and will no doubt continue to be, the definitive work which closes the last chapter of Colt's original single action production." -- Ron Graham, co-author A Study of the Colt Single Action Revolver along with John Kopec and C. Kenneth Moore
