This collection of stories is about life on the streets and the true spirit of humanity in the face of adversity. It’s about the guy that hangs out in front of the supermarket with the big black dog asking for spare change. It’s about that kid with the spiked Mohawk and the rat on his shoulder. It’s about hitchhiking in unfamiliar territory and about being cold and lonely. It’s about squirrels and dolls and . . . oh hell, it’s a little slice of life as seen from a park bench or the side of the highway or even from the sidewalk, looking up at the world with a child’s eyes. The characters in these stories survive by their own wits, the occasional generosity of the more affluent in whose shadows they live, and a certain amount of dumb luck. About the Author
Stephen Lestat is a brilliant artist who works as a sculptor, painter, and writer. He was born in 1957 and lived in Rhode Island until the late 1980s, when he made his way to California where he was "adopted by the streets." Fortunately, he was miraculously rescued in 1997. He now lives in Santa Cruz, California, indoors. The stories in Punk Chicken are drawn both from his personal experiences and his vivid imagination.
