This book is reprinted by the Little Traverse Historical Society as a tribute to the hardy settlers of Emmet and Charlevoix counties of Michigan. it is a happy children's story, f the life and lot of these homesteaders, named Mossbacks in that their first temporary homes were dugouts built into a hillside. he dirt roofs were covered with moss to repel rain hence the name Mossback.
