This instructional text is designed to explain and illustrate techniques taught at the Miyama Ryu martial arts schools. The book's main focus are the throws, moves, and punches required of Miyama Ryu students to advance from beginner to expert. To this end, the directions are clearly explained. However, while the Miyama Ryu schools are based on the ancient Japanese ju-jutsu "art of grappling," the lessons here include some very serious applications, such as fracturing elbows, knees, and ribs. In addition, it is generally difficult to learn martial arts from a book without prior basic knowledge. For comprehensive martial arts collections only.
