Reviews

Gathered in the wake of the centennial Parliament of World Relgions in 1993, this is an inspirational collection of essays, poems, and other writings by scholars of the world's religions as well as laity. While initial sections describe the goals of the parliament as well as the beliefs of all the religions of the world, the crucial contribution of the book is its emphasis on "forming a community of religions" and "looking toward the 21st century." Such visions articulate the ways that religions can work together to effect political, social, and religious change, especially in attitudes toward the environment and the interdependence of humanity. Most touching are the poems of children. An illuminating look at the living character of the world's religions; highly recommended.
