Recycling seems like a good and simple idea, but it can be a confusing undertaking when you're getting started: There are so many materials to be recycled in so many ways. McVicker explains the hows and whys of the process, suggesting, refreshingly enough, methods for dealing with recycling a bit at a time rather than in the all-or-nothing-at-all manner often urged. Furthermore, her strategies for overcoming space and time constraints make this an excellent handbook for getting acquainted with recycling methods and procedure. Perhaps, as with her help you master one or two areas of recycling--say, paper and glass containers--branching out to include other areas of waste management will seem more doable. Since time and space are increasingly rare commodities for busy consumers, McVicker's sensible environmentalism is timely as well as helpful. Mike Tribby
