About the Author

Mitchell Schwarzer is Associate Professor of architectural history and theory at the California College of Arts and Crafts, San Francisco. He has written and lectured widely on American architecture and urbanism, German architecture, and other topics in art history. Most recently, he has published essays in ANY Magazine, Design Book Review & Harvard Design Magazine. He received a Ph.D in architectural history from M.I.T. in 1991, and during the early 1980's was a Historic Preservation Planner for San Francisco's Department of City Planning. The author lives in Noe Valley, a block from the geographic center of San Francisco.
