U.S. PRESIDENTS ON THE AMERICAN CLASS SYSTEM John Adams -

The great functions of state should be reserved to the rich, the well born and the able.

Thomas Jefferson - Money, not morality, is the principle of commercial nations.

James Madison - The most common and durable sources of faction, has been the various and unequal distribution of property. Those who hold, and those who are without property, have ever formed distinct interests in society.

Theodore Roosevelt - We keep countless men from being good citizens by the conditions of life with which we surround them.

Franklin Roosevelt - We have always known that heedless self-interest was bad morals; we know now that it is bad economics.

John F. Kennedy - If a free society cannot save the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

Lyndon Johnson - Even the greatest of all past civilizations existed on the exploitation of the misery of the many.

Ronald Reagan - What I want to see above all is that this remains a country where someone can always get rich.

George Bush - Class is for European democracies or some-thing else - it isn't for the United States of America. We are not going to be divided by class.

Bill Clinton - We need a national strategy to create a high-wage, high-growth, high-opportunity economy.
