U.S. Marines have evolved into modern-day American Samurai. These proud patriots have become American Icons, and they live in the province of legend. Through photographs, illustrations, and text, those who delve into this book experience Marine Corps history and traditions. They discover time-honored Marine quotations and re-live the fighting warrior culture of the Corps. Marine slogans? The mascot? The creeds? The commandants? The War Memorial on hallowed ground? Movies about Marines? They are all here. Blood chit? Blood stripe? Tun Tavern? Air America? General Orders? Mameluke and NCO swords? Yes, all of that plus Happy Hour satire for Marine Grunts and Marine Air. Upbeat and gung-ho. Politically Incorrect and proud of it. No profanity. A magnificent book for Marine Warriors and Marine families.

The author served as an officer and pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps. After his release from active duty be became a commercial pilot for the oil & gas industry. Thereafter he worked in various managerial capacities at AT&T for 25 years. During the last 10 years of that career he served as a guest instructor at Bell Communications Research. After retirement from the corporate world he began researching and writing books and articles about military issues, aviation concerns, and history. This new and expanded Third Edition of Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines is among his 13 books.
The author says this book is Politically Incorrect and proud of it. He is not kidding. The book was written by a Marine for Marines and is not intended for those trying to be Politically Correct on a joint service tour. The satire section is exclusively for U.S. Marines. Saying the book is irreverent to other services is like saying Chesty Puller was just another Marine. And I am glad that, finally, someone has given the exact formula for figuring the Pucker Factor. This is the perfect book to carry when you have a few minutes between sorties, while hot refueling, when the enemy is regrouping, or any time you need a little motivation. --Marine Corps Aviation Association
The sub-title says it all. This is a collection of axioms for warriors, Marine quotations, battle history, reflections on combat, Corps legacy, humor - and much more - for the world's Warrior Elite. The satire is exclusively for U.S. Marines. There are no long-winded essays here, just hundreds of stories, quotations, histories, slogans, and definitions. PART ONE embraces Marine Corps history and life in the Corps, everything from Tun Tavern to The Marines' Hymn. PART TWO offers Happy Hour fare for Marines and is broken down into Happy Hour Laws of Combat and Happy Hour Military Terms. Each section is broken down further for Infantry (The Magnificent Grunts) and Aviation, with a special section for Marine helicopters. The author, Marion Sturkey, is well known to most Marines for his nationally acclaimed book, BONNIE-SUE: A Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron in Vietnam, considered by many as the definitive work on Marine Corps helicopter warfare in Vietnam. --Leatherneck Magazine
Books are always a good gift item. While in Washington, DC, over the Memorial Day weekend I met Marion Sturkey. He was a Vietnam helicopter pilot in the Marine Corps, so he's been there and done that. His book, Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines, was originally 207 pages long. It was soon updated with a Second Edition, but now the latest Third Edition has 370 pages and lots of new information. It contains axioms for warriors, Marine quotations, battle history, reflections on combat, the Corps legacy, some humor, and much more about the world's warrior elite. This is a must-have book for any Marine's library. --Gun Week Magazine
