A.C. Greene, a native of Abilene, Texas, is the author of more than 25 books, including novels and short stories, local an regional history and memoirs. His histories include the winner of the Fehrenbach Prize, 900 Miles on The Butterfield Trail, and a Texas Institute of Letters award winner, The Last Captive. His first book, A Personal Country, published by A.A. Knopf in 1969, is still in print (University of North Texas Press) as is his West Texas true crime classic, The Santa Claus Bank Robbery.
A.C. Greene is a fellow of the Texas state Historical Association and of the Texas Institute of Letters, of which he has been president, councilor, and newsletter editor. He lives in Salado, Texas with his wife Judy Dalton Greene.
