Dr. Cassy Baldwin, a young heart surgeon and divorced mother, has established herself as an internationally acclaimed professional woman in Dallas. But in the process, her personal life has crumbled into a failed marriage. Casting aside her high profile surgical career, Cassy takes the position as Director of the Dallas Metropolitan Hospital Emergency Roon to allow her more time with Alex, her emotionally troubled eight-year old son.
On Memorial Day weekend in Dallas their lives erupt into even greater turmoil when Senor Marquez, one of Cassy's ER patients, revives in the ER morgue three hours after she has mistakenly pronounced him dead with her diagnosis of a fatal heart attack. In an effort to regain her professional reputation as well as her ER directorship in the aftermath of her much publicized erroneous diagnosis, Cassy searches for an explanation for Senor Marquez's return from apparent death.
