Professor Constantine Spyrakos is a faculty member at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and the College of Engineering at West Virginia University (WVU) in Morgantown, WV, USA. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from NTUA, Greece. He also holds an M.S. in Engineering Mechanics and a Ph.D., with an emphasis on the utilization of FEA methods to solve dynamics problems, from the University of Minnesota.
Prior to joining the faculty at WVU and NTUA, Dr. Spyrakos spent several years in the industry, where he was involved in the finite element analysis and computer-aided design of a wide range of engineering systems. As a researcher, Dr. Spyrakos has headed projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the Federal Highway Administration, NATO and many leading companies.
Dr. Spyrakos is widely considered a leading authority in computational mechanics methods. His credits include more than 100 refereed publications and reports on subjects such as static, dynamic, seismic and thermoelastic vibration problems involving conventional as well as composite materials.
Dr. John Raftoyiannis holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He also holds an M.S. in Civil Engineering and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from West Virginia University with an emphasis on stability, composite materials and computational mechanics. He has recently been invited to join the Civil and Geological Engineering Department at the University of Manitoba in Canada.
Dr. Raftoyiannis has gained broadbased research and field experience over more than ten years in many civil and mechanical engineering projects both in the United States and Greece. In his professional career in industry, he has been involved in the analysis and design of concrete and fiber-reinforced plastic systems. In his academic career, he has participated in research projects on steel structures and chaos, composite materials and finite element analysis. His credits included more than 20 scientific publications. His research work has been presented in several national and international seminars and conference.
