Dr. Robert Abernethy is an engineer and a statistician. He has four degrees from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Imperial College of the London. He was a Navy Scholar and a Fulbright scholar. After serving in the US Navy, he was with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 32 years. He invented the J58 engine that powers the world's fastest aircraft, the Lockheed Blackbird, the SR-71. He also has the patent on the afterburner used on the F-100 engine in the F-15 and F-16 aircraft. For his original research in Weibull analysis methods he has received numerous awards from SAE, AIAA, ASME, and ISA. He is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, SAE, American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics, and the American Society of Quality. He has lectured on Weibull analysis all over the world and his Weibull Handbooks have been translated into Hungarian and Chinese.
