For five years, publishers gave this book a "rave rejection," saying there was no market for a book about "a couple of aging homesteaders." I knew they were wrong. People really do want to read about making choices and living with the consequences of those choices. They also want to laugh at themselves and scream at the world's foibles. "Carrying Water a Way of Life" moves from idealism to pragmatism, from the lyrical to the ironic.
