The new 550-page release from Haestad Press is a welcome addition to our series on water resources modeling. It concentrates on hydraulic models of wastewater collection systems. However, it is not solely a book on computer models but a book that takes the reader from basic hydraulics, through model building, load estimation, data collection, calibration, design and rehabilitation of systems.
Special consideration is given to problems associated with combined sewers and overflows from sanitary sewers. Even though the emphasis is on gravity systems, the book also covers force mains and pressure sewers as well as use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and regulatory aspects of collection systems. The use of hydraulic models to demonstrate compliance with regulations in the United States, Canada and the European Union is reviewed.
Designed to be used in the classroom or the office, this text focuses on linking engineering theory to practical modeling applications. It includes numerous real-world examples. Homework problems may be solved for continuing education credit. Wastewater Collection System Modeling and Design comes with an academic version of Haestad Methods' SewerCAD software, which can be used to solve the included exercises.
