This book is written in two parts. Part 1 covers the history of the region in general. You can get an overview of Caribbean history in just 68 pages. Part 2 covers the history of 19 of the islands that were major players during the region's historical development.
We wrote this book with the traveler in mind--not for the world of academia. It is tightly written at a reasonable reading level in an easy-to-read format and type size--and it's light-weight.

As veteran Caribbean travelers, Dene and I saw the need for a book on Caribbean history written to provide the traveler with the islands' history in an easy- to-read format.

(1) If you are in a hurry, just read the chapter about the island you will visit tomorrow; (2) If one topic like Buccaneers, Pirates and Privateers, strikes a nerve, read that section alone in Parts 1 and 2. (3) When you have the luxury of time, relish the experience of reading the book cover to cover.
