The book tells the story of the author growing up during the depression, his burning desire to become a pilot and the realization of that dream when he joins the U.S Army Air Corps. During WW 2 He was shot down, evaded capture and joined A French Maquis Group. While participating in a raid against Germans he was captured. He later made a daring escape and joined another Maquis Group where he devised a plan to sucessfully liberate two French Cities. After 50 years he managed to locate and visit members of the French Resistance group he was with.
