About the Author
Author Bio: An accomplished speaker and author, Gordon H. Wadsworth
is the President of Financial Aid Information Services. He majored in journalism at the University of Iowa before graduating from San Jose State University. Wadsworth regularly conducts seminars for high school students and is a veteran Crown Financial seminar instructor. The College Trap is Wadsworth’s third book following two other successful titles, Debt Free College and Cost Effective College.

During the past 15 years a major change has taken place in the academic world. Because of the ease with which students can now acquire credit cards, leased automobiles and government loans, the burden of paying for college has shifted from the parents to the student. With scores of families already weighted down by multiple car payments, heavy credit card debt, the shrinking dollar and rising fuel costs, some parents feel the change couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time.
Nationally known pastor and author, Andy Stanley, wrote, “Many times I hear of young people who want to serve the Lord in ministry but are financially enslaved because of debt.” Students today are beginning to ask questions: Is it worth graduating from college with $20,000 or $30,000 or even $60,000 in debt? Will I really end up in financial bondage for years? Why is it that tuition increases far exceed the overall inflation rate? And finally, do I really need a college education to advance in this world? We will endeavor to answer these questions and more in The College Trap.
A college diploma can be one of the most challenging 4 or 5 years in anyone’s life, but well worth the investment of time, money and emotion. The key is to remain free of the debt that’s plaguing the country’s graduating seniors. Yet, to do so requires discipline as well as creative planning. Advanced planning may include the military or attending a local community college prior to transferring to a recognized 4-year institution, or even attending college online. We’ll explore the options and help you make wise decisions as you move forward.
