Marshall enlisted in the US Army, served in World Wars I and II, organized and directed the US armed forces of World War II as the Army chief of staff, became the first US five star general, served as a special US emissary to Chines, served as president of the American Red Cross , was the first military man to serve as secretary of the state, was the author of the Marshall Plan, served as secretary of defense and won the 1953 Nobel Prize for Pieace

About the Author
Mary Sutton Skutt is a native of Virginia,a graduate of Radford College and the University of New Hampshire and taught in Virginia schools for 18 years. After retiring from the Lexington City Schools, she became a docent at the George C. Marshall Museum and Research Library. Having grown up during the time that Marshall was making the history we study today, she decided to write a book that young people could read concerning this great American. Mrs. Skutt lives in Lexington with her husband, has 4 grown children and 12 grandchildren. Housework is not her hobby.
