White's Teaching and Assessing Writing was called "required reading for the profession" when it was published in 1985. White draws especially on new knowledge about assessment to offer effective methods of evaluation and feedback. And he shows how the use of assessment by teachers can greatly assist the process of learning to write.
About the Author
EDWARD M. WHITE is professor of English at California State University, San Bernadino. In 1993, he was elected to a second term on the Executive Committee of the Conference on College Composition and Communication. White is also the author of Developing Successful College Writing Programs (1989) and Assigning, Responding, and Evaluating (1992), and coeditor of Inquiry (1993).
