Alice Azure's writings have appeared in a number of journals and anthologies such as The Florida Review; Native Literatures: Generations; and Yellow Medicine Review. She grew up in the Connecticut River Valley in Cromwell, Connecticut and Springfield, Massachusetts, and earned an M.A. degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Iowa. A Mi'kmaq Métis, her roots are in the Kespu'kwitk District of Nova Scotia. She lives in Maryville, Illinois, close to her four grandchildren.
It is a pleasure to have these poems from Alice Azure. They tell stories that bring alive for us the Old Ones of Cahokia Mounds, and the New Ones of her own family and tribal people. It is good to hear them and I am grateful to her for sharing them with us. --Carter Revard, Osage Poet
Alice Azure is a powerful and moving poetic voice not only for her Micmac people but for all Native American people today. --Robert J. Conley, Cherokee Novelist & Historian
[In] this magical collection of verse...one can almost hear the dissonant din of partisan manufacture and the drumming, rattles, and the muffled shuffling of lines of dancers snaking through the revivified ceremonial center. This primetime poetry deserves a wide audience. --Raymond D. Fogelson, Handbook of North American Indians
