About the Author:
George Morton was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1949 and immigrated to the U.S. as a young man. Motivated by his love and knowledge of language, he became fascinated with medical transcription and soon became a nationally recognized leader in the field. As a certified medical transcriptionist, the author worked in the profession for over twenty five years. During that time, Morton operated a very successful medical transcription service from his home, with major hospitals among his clients. He also founded Medical Language Development, an education service for professionals in healthcare, law and insurance. For many years, he was a specialist in Quality Control. Morton taught medical transcription, advanced medical transcription and medical terminology on the college level for fifteen years in California. Thousands of individuals throughout the U.S. were introduced to the profession through his popular career-information seminar "How to Become A Medical Transcriptionist." Morton was an active member of the American Association for Medical Transcription and wrote educational articles for their professional journal and many other publications. He was a frequent guest speaker at professional conferences and symposiums and represented his profession in the Healthcare Standards Review Committee, a federal government program to define employment skills and standards for employers and educators. Throughout his career, he worked tirelessly to bring to the medical transcription profession the recognition and respect that it deserved. Morton died of pancreatic cancer at his home in New Jersey in December, 2004. This book is his lasting tribute and contribution to all of those who want to venture into the field of medical transcription.
