Part of the Babsy B Board Book Series, I Can! Can You? caters to the interests and cognitive development of children ages 1+ (Toddler 1s). One-year-olds are gaining new skills rapidly, abilities that involve awareness of themselves and others. Eager to confirm their new understandings of vocabulary and knowledge, Toddler 1s delight in this book’s every invitation to interact verbally and physically––to move and act in fun and funny ways. Whether read aloud or sung to its catchy tune, the text of I Can! Can You? invites toddlers to confirm and demonstrate their developing awareness and knowledge about body parts and their purposes. The accompanying activity suggestions on the back cover encourage use of the book’s language pattern to make up new verses that focus on Toddler 1s’ other emerging skills and discoveries, skills such as learning to jump, push and pull objects, move backward, hide, make music, and generally to explore the enticing world around them. I Can! Can You? notices and celebrates Toddler 1s’ fascination with being able to cause actions to happen, especially when there’s opportunity to engage others in this playful learning. The Babsy B Board Book Series includes eight books, two titles for each age category. Each book has its own catchy tune along with suggested additional book-related, engaging activities––all designed to appeal to the particular developmental milestones of children ages 0–3+.
