This is a story of how a midwife and her patients used the community, the legal system and the media to defend themselves against the legal and illegal harassment from the local medical system. But at what price? It is the story of emotional trauma buried within Judy Lee's psyche. Emotional trauma when tapped 25 years later, resembled the trauma suppression seen in women who have been violently raped and never told.

Bette Waters, the author who wrote Judy Lee's story is a retired Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) and owner of Bluwaters Press. She lives in Deming, New Mexico, where she writes fiction, nonfiction, poetry and publishes books. Her latest book is My Mother Was A Spaceship. Waters says she took a lot of flack over the title of the book, but stuck to her guns. The book is now a monologue for the stage and in the process of becoming a film.
You won't want to miss Judy's account of courage, community activism and persistence in the face of medical opposition in her years of struggle as the only home birth midiwife in a small town in New Mexico.
