This wonderfully illustrated picture book will surely grab the attention of small children of all ages. It is based on the familiar song, The 12 Days of Christmas. Little ones will love the repetitive sequence starting with one robin in an oak tree, two yawining bears....all the way up to twelve frogs-a-leaping. It is an accumulative counting rhyme about one of our four seasons - spring. You can use the questions and activities at the end of the book as a fun learning tool for your young audience. It's a music book: sing the words. It's a counting book: read the numbers, find and count the items on each page. It's a reading book: repetitive phrases help to develop and reinforce reading skills. It's an adventure book: explore the neighborhood to find and do everything that's in the book!

Review:

This is a real treasure for all those children who love being outside. Nature deficit disorder doesn't have a chance when children cuddle in for this read. I wanted to run right outside and play. It will inspire parents to spend more time outside celebrating nature with their children. --Kathy Hodgeman, Director/Teacher Rye Country Day School

This is truly a delightful book! The illustrations are simple yet bright and colorful and enhance this basic counting book. The rhythmic text will hold the attention of even the youngest child. The questions and activities at the end are a great way to learn more about spring. Adults and children will enjoy reading this together. --Joanne Mulready, Children's Division, Lane Memorial Library
