Synopsis
Detective Sergeant Samantha Casey is back after her debut in When the Dead Speak. Suspended from the force after her last case, Sam is having a difficult time adjusting to unemployment. But there are more unsettling changes in her life than unemployment.
When a staunch opponent of gambling is found murdered on a riverboat casino, Sam is hired by the owners to clear them of any involvement. The suspect is believed to be an assassin known as "Sparrow". Authorities can only identify him by the tattoo on the back of his hand. The deceased is carrying $50,000 in counterfeit money. Sparrow soon realizes the fee he was paid is counterfeit. Sparrow is one man you don't want to cross.
Sparrow plays a cat-and-mouse game with Sam's young computer friend, Tim, and matches wits with Sam. Just who is Sparrow? I spent six years as a casino dealer. Working nights was hectic and fun but I'm not a four-in-the-morning person so I switched to the day shift. Most days I was on the bacarat table and players usually didn't arrive until after noon. It can get pretty boring sitting by yourself for four hours so I started thinking of a mystery plot involving a riverboat casino...hence, Nothing Else Matters was created.
About the Author
Sandra Tooley worked for a local riverboat casino for six years. She was a casino dealer and refers to it as "the most enjoyable job I ever had. It provided a storehouse of character ideas. I met gamblers in every size, shape, and nationality, with every quirky characteristic and superstition imaginable."
She has been writing for "most of my life" but not seriously until 15 years ago. Although an avid mystery reader, she loves to cross genres. Her Sam Casey series is mystery/paranormal, and her Chase Dagger series (written under the pseudonym Lee Driver) combines mystery and fantasy. Her second Chase Dagger, Full Moon-Bloody Moon due out in October 2000, combines mystery with light horror.
