THE PLAZA OF SANTA FE; An ancient meeting place since 1610. - DO YOU KNOW.... Wh y the inscription on the monument in the Plaza says "___ indians"? About the Los Alamos atomic scientist who gave plans for the bomb to the Russians, and who was never caught? When live goats were sold on the Plaza for two dollars ? Why the University of Illinois and sports franchises in Cleveland and elsewhere have so many people seeing red? What proje ct - the one that closed down Rocky Flats - is now being performed at Los Alamos Lab? How many old New Mexican families still o bserve the rites of their Jewish heritage, sometimes without being aware of it? Why the statue of Juan de Onate at Alcalde has two left feet?
Matt Kelly is a resident of Santa Fe, where he has lived for more than twenty-five years and where he has raised his family. Often involved with broadcasting, he saw that there is an abundance of interesting and knowledgeable and sometimes eccentric personalities with information and opinions that deserved to be heard and reflected upon. After several attempts Matt discovered that the ideal setting for his interviews was recording 'live' from the Plaza of Santa Fe. Nothing compares to the fresh air and vibrant ambience of the Plaza to encourage his guests to feel relaxed and free to open up. The Plaza has a presence found nowhere else. This was the place!
Since 1996, when FROM THE PLAZA debuted, the radio program has become a fixture six o'clock Monday evenings on 90.7 KSFR FM, and has attracted a fiercely dedicated if sometimes small following.
The encouragement of his listeners and requests for copies of shows made it clear to Matt that these interviews deserved an even wider circulation. From this came the idea for this book.
