The Clarks and Clarkes are at it again! From Billy and Drab's peanut feud to Mrs. Effie's diet, to Camouflage Clark's latest hunting disguise, you'll howl with laughter at the antics of the folks who live on Heartache and Hunger Creek.

Bashin' Bob Clarke is the preacher of the Heartache and Hunger Creek Baptist Church in this imaginary town in Georgia. His simple approach to the townsfolk's problems is at the heart of this collection of short stories that will delight readers of all ages. Written as newspaper columns by the Heartache and Hunger Creek Sentinel's editor, Goat Herder (the only character in the book not named Clark or Clarke), the stories reflect the day to day goings on in a small Southern town, where a major event can be a wedding, a baptising, or a fast running dear in the middle of hunting season.

Slapstick humor vies with common sense for center stage. As you meet the folks on Heartache and Humger Creek, you're sure to find someone you already know.

From the Publisher:
This delightful collection of stories is great for read aloud or any time. They are tall tales in the truest American tradition because they have enough truth in them to make them real. The "Southern dialect" is easy to read because it is true to the real way Southerner's speak (and because a true Southerner knows that "Y'all" is a plural pronoun).

The book is illustrated with the line drawings of William P. McLemore. Reminiscent of the cartoons of James Thurber, the drawings are simple and humorous and add to the reader's enjoyment of the stories.

All is all, Bashin' Bob Clarke & Other Tales of Heartache and Hunger Creek is a rip roaring good time.

From the Author:
These stories were originally verbal which I told to the children of one of my parishoners who was ill. Each week as I finished my visit at their home, the children would beg me for a story, so I just naturally obliged. Finally, at the request of the children's mother, I put the tales down on paper, and low and behold, I had a book. This is why I say, these stories are best read aloud...and please feel free to make sound effects.
