Synopsis

Rhinestone Country is a provocative but tender portrait of Country Music, show biz, stardom, and closeted lives south of the Mason-Dixon line. Sweeping across the racial and sexual landscapes of the Deep South between 1930 and 1978, it takes a hard look at closeted lives and the destructive aspects of fame. Loaded with truly memorable characters, it's delectable, stimulating, sexy, and tantalizing. Rosacoke Carson, the leading, long-suffering heroine of Rhinestone Country, gives new meaning to the phrase, 'Stand by your Man.' The portrayal of the time she spends in prison should be standard reading for absolutely everyone. ―Nochetta. This is a brash, sensational, and explosive novel about stardom―the glitter, the glamour, the hot sex, and the desolate loneliness. ―Leather and G-Scene. Many men love their sons. Pete Riddle, known to his fans as the sexiest musician alive, loved his more than most. ―Inferno. This is a daring and dazzling work about trauma, deception, and pain, all of it with a Southern accent. It's the True Grit of show-biz novels. ―Peter Tompkins.

From the Publisher

The Georgia Literary Association was established in Wilkes County, Georgia, in 1997, and relocated to New York City several years later. Aware of the distinguished literary history of Georgia, it's dedicated to the promotion of worthwhile reading that might not be endorsed by larger, more conservative publishing companies, especially those within the Deep South. In patterns already established through the publication of titles that have included MIDNIGHT IN SAVANNAH, HOLLYWOOD'S SILENT CLOSET, BUTTERFLIES IN HEAT, and BLOOD MOON, we'll continue to showcase the fine, diverse, and sometimes controversial entertainment coming out of the Deep South.

Books to watch for in the near future include a groundbreaking biography of screen legend Humphrey Bogart, and GOIN' SOUTH, a story about evil, greed, violence, vengeance, and homophobia in a small Georgia town; the GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT of the post-millennium New South.

From the Author

The Deep South evokes strong feelings of loyalty to anyone who grew up there. My challenge in Rhinestone Country has been to re-create its love, its drama, and its brutality while remaining faithful to the basic worth of its emotional core.
