Synopsis

Churches can make more disciples of Jesus Christ. Often clergy and laity leadership don’t know how to build a consensus, develop an action plan, and move forward. Adding Power to the Cross provides hands-on information for enhancing church effectiveness. As a professional consultant the author successfully applies the processes discussed in many churches. Although the book focuses on United Methodist congregations much of the information applies to all churches. The idea for the title came from I Corinthians, Chapter 1, Verses 1-17. Corinth church members are quarreling and there is dissension among them. Paul implies that quarreling and dissension weakens the preaching of the gospel and results in the cross being emptied of its power. It seems reasonable that if quarreling and dissension can cause the cross to be emptied of its power, ways to increase Church unity and effectiveness can add power to the cross.

Topics covered by the book include leadership, organization, structure, management, administration, governance, laity, clergy, personnel, consensus building, evangelism, strategic planning, change, conflict resolution, annual conference issues, and general conference issues.
